The Story:
The 5000 is the story of a journey from ignorance to knowledge. In this piece, I expressed my thoughts on our journey as human beings on planet earth. The story, situated in the biblical story of the feeding of the 5000 captures our evolution in 2 eras ( an era of Ignorance, and an era knowledge). The painting captures the movement from left to right. In the left, I captured the struggles, pain and chaos we create in spite of the abundance available to us all. I also captured the 9/11 incident in the USA in the background. The import of this was captured by Mr Ikenna Nwachukwu when he reviewed the piece and said “Godlove the transport of this piece is clearly founded on the juxtaposition of several earth shaking experiences namely the 9/11 disaster and Christ’s miraculous feeding of the 5000. In doing so it poses the challenge of locating the factor that joins these two great manifestations of good and evil. For now, I can summarize the binding element in one word: UPHEAVAL.”
On the far right, I painted the coming together of the whole world. A world where everyone can live in unity. Where there is no more excessive wastes and where everyone counts. A world where we no more pursue profits to the detriment of the earth. In the background, I captured the reconstructed Twin Towers, Eiffel Tower, the pyramid of Giza and Aso Rock. I did this in a bid to portray that just as we have created war, scarcity, and Hunger, we can also rebuild like the Twin Towers was rebuilt, we can rebuild the world, we can build a better society where we will we can live in unity, with better climate control, fuel efficiency, women and children rights, and freedom of expression.
